Sunkissed Jewels: Wearing Jewelry To The Beach

1. Avoid wearing rings at the beach, especially in cold water which makes the body shrink and, sometimes, causes rings to fall off your fingers and disappear.

2. The harder the stone, the less likely it is to be affected by the salty air of the beach. In that case, it’s preferable to avoid wearing pieces with semi-precious gemstones.

3. The fewer alloys a piece has, the safer it is to wear it to the beach.

4. Silver jewelry is best avoided at the beach because salt causes it to oxidize, though itโ€™s not permanent and can be cleaned afterward.

5. Avoid plated jewelry as pieces can be easily damaged in the beachโ€™s salty weather.

6. Avoid wearing pieces made of copper (found in rose gold), wood, and turquoise to the beach as salt is very harsh on these elements.

7. Wear jewelry that is not difficult to take off and put back on every time you apply sun lotion.

8. Regardless of which pieces of jewelry you decide to take to the beach, never take it with you to the water as the risk is just not worth it.

If youโ€™re ever unsure about your jewelry pieces, just leave them at home. It really isn’t worth losing or ruining precious items just because laziness got the best of you. You’ll thank us later.
