Diamonds are sturdy and tough so much so that only a diamond can cut another diamond. Despite being the strongest natural substance on the planet, diamonds are dirt magnets. Any mild touch can allow the stone to lose its sparkly effect. And because diamond earrings stay on your ears for days at a time, they require intense cleaning quite often.
Luckily, it’s not a hassle to keep your diamond earrings squeaky clean. Here’s how to do it.
1. Every problem has its own “solution”
You don’t even need to leave the comfort of your own home to get the ingredients needed to bring back the shine on your diamond earrings. You just need to create an easy solution at home to get the process going. Get a small bowl and add 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Then add 3 teaspoons of warm water to the mixture. Blend the solution well.
Be wary of the dishwashing liquid you use. Make sure it does not contain chlorine bleach as the chemicals can tarnish the jewelry being cleaned.
2. It’s time to soak, folks!
Place your earrings into the solution you made, let them sit in there for a good 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Brush the dirt off
With a brand-new thin toothbrush, gently clean the stone and the backings for any leftover dirt. We all know how easily dirt builds up on the backside of earrings.
Make sure the brush is used exclusively for cleaning your earrings. You wouldn’t want other types of dirt/chemicals to ruin your earrings towards the end of the cleaning process.
4. Rinse, Rinse, Rinse
After you have gone through all the above steps, rinse the earrings one last time and place them on a dry cloth to air dry. You may want to repeat this cleaning process once every two weeks, depending on how often you wear your earrings. To be on the safe side, maybe try doing it once a month only.
